Need Microsoft help for 1394 card

N

Need Answer

In XP Pro, After 1394 card is installed, the system
creates another network connection and automatically
switches the internet connection to option 1 - this
computer directly connect to the internet.
With this option, all my computers connected to the
router do not work any more.
Unplug the 1394 card, it will go back to option 2 and the
internet connection works again.
I think Microsoft should give a solution for this. Thks.

If XP created a network bridge between the 1394 and LAN connections,
right-click and delete the network bridge.

If you're not using the 1394 card for networking, right-click the 1394
connection and click Disable.

If the Internet connection option still isn't right, run the Network
Setup Wizard and specify the right option. Tell it that you'll select
your Internet connection -- don't let it create a network bridge.

Steve, Thks for your help.
I did exactly what you said. But still not working, it
seems the problem is difficult.
1. No bridge. I always tell the internet connection is
through the network card in the Wizard.
2. I can disable the 1394 network connection, But the
internet connection sticks to option 1 - even I change it
again and again in the Wizard. Only way to change it is
to unload the driver ( but it will come back after reboot)
or unplug the card. If unload or unplug, the internet
connection option automatically change to option 2 in the
Wizard.
Need your help. Thks.

Let me know if I can try any other method.

What you mean by "the internet connection sticks to option 1". What
is "option 1", and where do you see it? What exactly does it say?
What is "option 2", and what does it say?

What driver are you unloading? What card are you unplugging?

With the 1394 card enabled, open a command prompt window and type:

ipconfig /all >ipconfig.txt

Then, copy and paste the contents of the "ipconfig.txt" file into your
news group reply

I don't know of any way that a 1394 card in one computer could have
any effect on the other computers. Are you saying that all of the
computers have trouble connecting to the router?

Steve, Thks first.
In XP network setup Wizard (from setup a home or small
office network) goto next.
You'll be asked to select a connection method:
The 1st option is:
This computer connects directly to the internet. The
other computers on my network connect to the internet
through this computer.
The 2nd option is:
This computer connects to the internet through another
computer on my network or through a residential gateway.
the 3rd option is:
Other.
Like others, I use DSL in home and DSL modem is connected
to the router and all the computers ( several XP PCs)are
connected to the router.
If select the 1st option, all the computers can not be
connected to the internet.
See if this is clear.
thks.

thks.

The right option is the 2nd one. Don't select the 1st one. Don't run
the Wizard again.

Make sure that the neither the 1394 nor the local area network
connection is shared. For each connection:

1. Right click the connection.
2. Click Properties.
3. Click Advanced.
4. If it's checked, un-check the box "Allow other network users to
connect through this computer's Internet connection".
5. Click OK to exit.

If that doesn't solve the problem, please provide the "ipconfig /all"
output that I mentioned above -- it's necessary in order to do any
further troubleshooting.
