1394 Connection not working

I had a firewire connecting two PCs for some time. A couple days ago I set up
a home network between my two orignal PCs and my wifes PC and Laptop using
Linksys router and Local Area Connections on my PCs. NOW my 1394 connections
on my orignal PCs don't work...after unpluging the firewire between my two
PCs they both STILL show that the 1394 firewire is connected...how can this
be with no firewire connected? It appears that I have connected my Local Area
and 1394 on my two PCs somehow. Please tell me what's wrong. Thanks

1394 is also known as Firewire. It is normal to be connected (well at
least on my home PCs.) You could try disableing it.

The 1394 should only say it is connected when there is a cable connection between two or more computers. In the past only when I made the cable connections would my PC say there is a connection and when I removed the cable my PCs would say "not connected". Now with the cables removed my PCs say there is a 1394 firewire connection but without a cable this should be impossible. I still want to us my firewire to transfer data between my two PCs and an external storage unit, but neither PC will reconize my storage unit or each other even though they both say I have a 1394 firewire connection.
