need help, problem with URLMON.DLL

E

el

Can anyone please help with a problem I am having with
Internet Explorer? Whenever I open it up, I get an error
message that says "Explorer has caused an error in URLMON.
DLL. Explorer will now close. If you continue to
experience problems, try restarting your computer." Also
I have to restore my active desktop everytime I close
Internet explorer.

I really hope someone can tell me what to do, thanks very
much.

The only thing you can do is change your home page...OR
use another browser like netscape. ether one will work.
Seems like there are more and more people having tha same
problem. I have been trying ot get help from Tech Support
Guy Forums. They are having me run a lot of different
program to see if they can figure it out. So far no luck.
If they come up with anything I will post back here and
let you know.

Jane,
First, here's a more direct link to the thread at Tech Support Guy forums
http://snipurl.com/urlmon

Now... just tossing out ideas...
You only have the urlmon problem when MSN is your homepage, right?
Try removing "active or updateable" modules from that page. Something like
weather, news, stocks, etc.

Delete your Temporary Internet Files folder. Follow the instructions at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

Next, you have a lot of running processes- a lot of things starting up with
each boot. I would disable (from msconfig> startup or within the program)
some of these. If disabling a program doesn't help, re-enable it.
C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\SYMANTEC SHARED\CCEVTMGR.EXE
C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\REAL\UPDATE_OB\EVNTSVC.EXE
** realplayer- disable auto update

C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\SYMANTEC SHARED\CCAPP.EXE
C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\SHARED FILES\CAMTRAY.EXE
C:\PROGRAM FILES\AWS\WEATHERBUG\WEATHER.EXE
C:\PROGRAM FILES\WEBSHOTS\WEBSHOTSTRAY.EXE

And... you have a lot of objects in C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files. I'm
not qualified to determine which are legitimate, but you might check
properties, version, etc of those objects and remove any which seem
suspicious.

Another longshot... from IE> Tools> Internet Options> Advanced, check MS VM
(virtual machine) uncheck Java (Sun) or JRE, just to see if that's
contribution to the problem
