Error in URLMON.DLL

J

Julia

When I open Internet Explorer I get the message that "Explorer has caused an
error in URLMON.DLL. Explorer will now close. If you continue to
experience problems, try restarting your computer.".

No matter how many times I reboot I still get it. Can anyone tell me
anything about getting rid of this annoying window. It doesn't actually
close Explorer, unless I click on Close, but floats on top of everything.

My OS is Windows ME. I have run Norton virus scan, defragged, ran
CWShredder, ran Regsvr32 URLMON.DLL (information from another
newsgroup)...all to no avail. The date on this file in Windows\System is
l/21/04 (I don't know what was updated at that time), but it has been ok
until this morning.

Thanks for any help.

ok....this is what i have done. I have a hotmail
account..I sign into that. then on the top it will say "My
MSN". I go there and have made that my home page. Have to
make it so you are always signed into your hotmail.Dont
like doing that, but so far thats the only thnig I have
found that works...other then using NETSCAPE broswer (
Have been working on this all darn day (..been to
message boards and haven't gotten any help. I think I
might go back and repost and see if anyone has any answers.
I wonder if there is anyway to write to MSN to let them
know and maybe they would have an answer for us??
I'll keep working on it....LOL....this is really driving
me crazy (..but I do feel better i'm not the only
one...sorry (
I'll get back to you if i can find out anything...please
do the same )
Take care

I did a search for URLMON.DLL and the version is
6.0.2800.1400
I also checked properties and it said....created 1-21-
04...modified same date.
I also went to start, run and typed in what you said..came
back saying windows could not find regsvr32.dll urlmon.dll.
any thought on what to do next?
Thank you,
Jane

In Windows Explorer, search for URLMON.DLL. Right-click on it > Properties
Version. Copy/paste version (e.g., 6.0.2800.1106) into
your reply.

Try this: Start > Run > [type in] "regsvr32.dll urlmon.dll" [w/ the space,
w/o the quotes] > OK

MSN is my home page too! I'll take your suggestion and make it something
else, and hope it works. I did notice that if I clicked on a link in the
newsgroup that IE would open and not have this annoying little window, and
only when I went to my MSN page would I get it. Thanks.

I was replying to Julia, on whose thread you've piggy-backed, Jane.

If (1) MSN is your homepage, too, (2) you only get the URLMON.DLL error at
the MSN page, and (3) changing your homepage to another page ends the
problem, leave well enough alone and wait for MSN to fix the page.
