need Fax help!

david

There is no fax printer listed in my
printer list and when I try to add one via "add fax
printer" in the advanced options, I get the message
something like "A fax printer was not able to be created.
Check to see that your modem was installed correctly".
Yet when I go to modem diagnostics, everything's hunky
dory. Whassup wid dat? (I do have DSL installed, but
also an external phone/answering machine, a US Robotics
56K modem and a Epson Perfection
1650 scanner).

With thanks,
david

I assume you are using Windows 2000 and you have a data modem connected to
the computer.

In that case, when you attach a fax modem, Windows 2000 detects it and
installs Fax service and fax printer.

Following shortcuts will be added in Programs->Accessories->
Communications->Fax

1. Fax Queue
2. Fax Service Management
3. My Faxes
4. Send Cover page

Please check that your modem is properly shown in 'Device Manager' (My
Computer > Manage > Device Manager)

I updated my modem driver and then this problem went
away. I already posted a message on how to do it under
someone else's Oct. 26 message, in case you're like me and
don't know how to update hardware drivers.
