NAV. SAME OR LESS COVERAGE IN RENEWAL

I purchased my computer (Dell Inspiron 4000, OS windows xp, upgraded from ME
in 2002). I also received Symantec, Norton Antivirus protection disk in the
package which I have been renewing via download ever since. Have been trying
to ask Symantec this question in reference to subscription renewal but their
website is likened to a merrygoround so I
so I am trying the Windows Newsgroup instead, hoping for some answers.
My question is ...
In light of the NAV. price increases over the past few years, I would like
to know if I do decide to renew would my renewed Antivirus coverage be the
same as previously or decreased/increased.
Thank you to anyone taking the time to read this and appreciate any
enlightment
in this matter.

$29.95 for a subscription renewal, $39.95 for a upgrade to the
current year version. Cost varies according to the product used,
NAV, NIS, or System Works.
I would recommend Computer Associates eTrust 7.0. You can
get a 1-year free subscription and their yearly subscription cost is
only $12.95 per machine. Much leaner system footprint, basically
the same functionality compared to NAV.

Hi R. Mc
Thanks for your reply.
Computer Associates eTrust 7.0 AV. protection sounds interesting.
Appreciate if you can direct me to the site that makes this offer.

Since you can purchase the UPGRADE to the current version for about $10
more than the subscription renewal, it would make sense to get the added
features found in the new product that you currently are lacking.

You'll get nearly as many differing opinions as you will
responses.

I used, and recommended, Norton Antivirus and then Norton Internet
Security, for many years, on Win98, WinNT, Win2K, and WinXP, all
without any significant problems. I had used McAfee prior to that.
But it's been several years since I've been tempted to try McAfee
products. Their quality seemed to take a steep nose-dive after they
were acquired by Network Associates.

However, when my subscription to Symantec's updates for Norton
Internet Security 2002 came up for renewal (at a cost substantially
higher than the preceding year's subscription), I decided to try less
expensive solutions. I downloaded and installed the free version of
GriSoft's AVG (http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php ) and the
free version of Sygate's Personal Firewall
(http://smb.sygate.com/free/default.php ). Both have proven to be
easily installed, easy to use, and quite effective. Additionally, I
was pleasantly surprised to see a small but very noticeable
improvement in my PC's performance, once I'd replaced the Symantec
product.

Amen on that - Bruce I too used to live/die by Norton/Symantec, but there
software has got so bloated and intrusive, I like you, decided to use AVG -
of course I've graduated to the pay version (as the free version won't run
on Win2k3), but the rest of my PC's (wife's and our laptop running XP) use
the free version. I also use ZA Pro on the 2k3 machine, and the free
version on the XP, but a lot of people aren't fans of ZA, especially since
they sold out. Most likely I'll be checking out the sygate version in a few
months when my ZA Pro subscription is up - thanks for the info.
