Reinstating lost Norton Antivirus protection

Don't know if anyone other than Symantec can help me.

Have recently successfully did a clean install on WinXPHomeEd but am having
a problem getting my Norton Antivirus protection back. Have advised Symantec
about this problem but have not heard from them. I have the original NAV
utilities disk (2001) but unable get back my full coverage (mainly email
protection). Any helpful advice would be appreciated. Still have two months
left in my subscriptiom Thanks

Your Norton version 2001 is obsolete and is not compatible
with Windows XP. Suggest you consider acquiring the latest
version (2005).

Also, if you want an older version of Norton without as much "extra" bulk in it (extra programming fat that doesn't really help much), get your hands on Norton Anti-Virus version 2002 from a used software store. This is the one I use because I found the newer versions of NAV had problems of their own from the "new features".

This is the first NAV that was made compatible with XP and it works great and will still install and upgrade without issues.

Thanks for your info
In the process of waiting for Symantec to reply to my problem I have
accidently come across Avast antivirus (which is free) and it seems to be
doing the job that I have been paying Symantec for. The delay in Symantec's
reply may wind up being a blessing in disguise. We'll see.

Just fyi my NAV also stopped scanning emails in/out whereas all its
other functions ran fine. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling NAV
numerous times, manually cleaning its reg entries, upgraded, etc, and
the problem persisted. I even reinstalled XPpro on top of itself and
the problem remained. I ended up switching to ESET NOD32
http://www.nod32.com/home/home.htm which is very lightweight, powerful
and runs very fast.
