My printer defaults keep changing

I use a laptop at multiple sites. Therefore I have multiple printers drivers
active. When I get to a business site, I change my default printer to the
printer I am using at that site. However when I open programs, my default
printers are changing. This also happens when I turn off and on the
computer. I have been working at my home office for the last 3 days. My
printer default has changed 14 times.

Most of the programs use to default to an HP printer I used last year. So I
deleted that printer. Now they head to my portable HP printer (which I only
use about 3 times a month) Intuit programs are going to the Intuit Internal
printer (which really isn't a printer at all). Adobe used to go to that old
HP printer and now goes to a Canon printer. Everytime I reboot, I end up
with my portable printer as the default.

The only printer I have plugged in right now is a HP Officejet d135. And it
is the only printer I have had plugged in for the last 3 days. I haven't
used the HP Officejet 6100 for 2 months (the main one that it is changing to)
and the Canon P1500 for 11 days (the next one) and I have NEVER used the
Intuit Internal Printer (and you can't delete the stupid thing - it keeps
coming back).

Sorry - the comment about the Intuit Internal printer coming back was
misleading. I have 15 different programs from Intuit on my computer. and
each one of them installs the Intuit Internal printer. I have deleted it
about 8 times. This week I installed new Intuit software and ...bang, I had
Intuit Internal printer again. I really don't care except that it became my
default printer.

AND I STILL DON'T KNOW WHY??? (whine)

I don't know why my default printer keeps changing from the one I pick
without me actually telling the computer to change.

I have now deleted every printer driver off my computer. I reinstalled my
home office all-in-one printer. And 2 hours into my morning, my default
printer changed from the the printer portion of the all-in-one to the fax
portion of the all-in-one.

I have been building, using, and teaching computers for over 20 years and
have never had this problem before I bought this laptop. It is my first
Windows XP laptop and therefore my first Windows XP with multiple printers.
I also have 3 users on this computer. Could the switch happen because the
computer is looking for a printer that the primary user has selected?
