default printer changing

I have several printer drivers on my machine. But my "default" (at least
thats what I want) driver is my HP color LJ3600. When ever I want to print a
document, I have to go back and reselect it as the default printer because
apparently windows is changing my default selection to a different printer.
And I have to go back and change it. Is there a way to keep windows from
changing your default selection at will?

Change it from
START
CONTROL PANEL
PRINTERS/FAXS
Right Click on the printer you want as default.

Some printers make themselves the default printer whether you like it or
not. And some applications print from the last-used printer rather than
from the default printer.

What is the printer that appears as the default printer after you set
your LJ3600 to be the default? And does this behavior exist over a
variety of applications, or only in one or two?

I usually am not aware that the change has happened until I want to print to
my HP CLJ 3600 and nothing comes out. So I go to START- CONTROL PANEL-
PRINTER/FAXES and then see that the default has been changed from the HP CLJ
3600 to the HP OfficeJet 5600. So I change it back and print my document.
Everything is fine...until I want to print again a few days later. Same
problem. So I check...and the same thing has happened. I change it back and
go on. This has happened more times than I can remember. But it did not
start happening until the last couple of months. I am not aware of changes
that I have made. But something is goofy. The last time I printed from the
HP officejet 5600 was maybe 8 months ago. And it does not seem to matter
what application I am using. Last night it happened again. I changed it.
And again this morning. It is very annoying.

There are a few proposed solutions in the hp forums. I can't vouch for
any of them, but for what it's worth:

A. See this thread:
