my OS does not boot upon marking the J: drive active.

I have an Windows XP OS I marked drive J:\ active in the computer
management. Then when i shutdown my system the OS does not boot at all.
My OS is installed in C drive. How can i return back the active drive
to C: instead where my OS is installed. What about Diskpart in XP can i
make use of that? Please help me, i do not want to lose my data in C:\.
