"My Network Places" locks up

Hello

First of all I have 2 Windows XP Home SP2 notebooks
connected wirelessly to the Microsoft Wireless-G
Broadband router (one with the Microsoft PCMCIA 802.11g
card, the other with the built-in Dell 802.11g miniPCI
card). One has the Windows Firewall enabled, the other
has Norton Internet Security. Besides the problem I
describe below, everything works OK (internet, large file
transfers, etc.).

I have observed that if I access the "My Network Places"
folder, and then either:

- refresh (F5)
- move around in shared folders then "go back" to the "My
Network Places" folder
- close the folder and then try to open it again

it locks up, forcing a shutdown of explorer.exe. When I
start explorer.exe again, the behavior is the same: opens
up once, then doesn't work.

This happens if I access it from the desktop or windows
explorer. It does NOT happen if I use IE.

Using the net view command I have gotten the following
errors:

System error 6118
System error 64

After some seconds, though, both PCs appear with net view.
This happens on BOTH notebooks.

If someone could tell me how to fix this, I would really
appreciate it.

Thank You.

I forgot to add that it happens if both or either of the
notebooks are connected to the network. Also, if the
notebook (either one) is disconnected from the
network, "My Network Places" works normally (but showing
just local shared folders, obviously).

I disabled the "show upnp devices", and now it behaves
normally. I'm not sure that limits me in any way
(apparently not).

Consider this feedback. It might be problematic for
someone.

Marco,

at least you're not alone. I have exactly the same problem.

What software did you recently install? How are the two problem
computers set up?

Hans-Georg
