Recently installed SP2 on XP Pro and I cannot get my
802.11g Notebook card to connect to 802.11g Wireless
Router, although the wired connection works. Here are
the symptoms:
1. I am now connected with IBM 10/100 EtherJet Cardbus
to 802.11g wireless router. However, if the connection
is broken, XP Pro will not reestablish and can't repair;
although I can ipconfig/release, I cannot renew as I get
the "socket operation ... on dead network" error. I have
to reboot to get wired connection. Before SP2, I could
disconnect and reconnect the Cat5 cable and XP Pro would
automatically reestablish the connection.
2. I have installed the 11g Notebook Card several times
with manufacturer's drivers. However, the card will not
accept an automatic IP address from the same
manufacturer's wireless router. If I manually assign the
IP address 192.168.2.10, sub net mask 255.255.255.0,
default gateway and DNS 192.168.2.1, the Notebook Card
then connects with the wireless router using WPA
authentication. However, although I now have an IP
connection to the wireless router, IE cannot access the
Internet through this wireless connecton (IE offer to
work offline).
Please help.
