My mouse freezes

I'm going slightly mad with this.
For every move I try to do in my PC there's this annoying start/stop mouse
thing like it freezes for 3 to 5 seconds or less then moves again freely for
the same amount of time just to freeze again. It goes on and on and makes me
lose so much time to get things done. To simply visit a file inside folders
and try to change from one folder to the other is a nightmare.

My PC is a Pentium 4 - 2.8 GHz - 1.0 GB RAM - Windows XP Home Edition
version 2002 - Service Pack 2, Updated everyday, which is ok I think and with
this problem it looks like a snail.

The mouse is a wireless one. I've just replaced the batteries and is still
acting the same, then I run McAfee anti-virus updated and it gave no results
for virus, then I
run Spybot Search and Destroy and found 5 or 6 results then applied the fix
button and again the mouse is still with the same problem.

If anyone can help me I would be grateful.

Thanks
JJ

Is the receiver placed in correct postion?
Visit the manufacturer's site to download and install the latest driver.

Change the Wireless Channel the Receiver/Mouse are using. If you
are using a cloth/fabric mouse pad, I'd suggest a more appropriate
surface for an optical mouse, such as a Wowpad.
