mouse stops for a few seconds

I'm going slightly mad with this.
For every move I try to do in my PC there's this annoying start/stop mouse
thing like it freezes for 3 to 5 seconds or less then moves again freely for
the same amount of time just to freeze again. It goes on and on and makes me
lose so much time to get things done. To simply visit a file inside folders
and try to change from one folder to the other is nightmarish.

If anyone can help me I would be grateful.

my PC is a Pentium 4 - 2.8 GHz - 1.0 GB RAM - Windows XP Home Edition
version 2002 - Service Pack 2, Updated everyday, which is ok I think and with
this problem looks like a snail.

Thanks
JJ

yes, my mouse is a wireless one.

I just replaced the batteries as you sugested and is still doing the same,
then I run McAfee anti-virus updated and it gave no results for virus, then I
run Spybot Search and Destroy and found 5 or 6 results then applied the fix
button and again the mouse is still with the same problem.
the only thing different now is the computer is making a 'bleep' now and then.

Anyway thanks for for quick answer to this. If you have any other sugestions
they are welcome.

Thanks
JJ
