My laptop won't boot up

I'm wondering (and hoping) if someone can help me

I am currently unable to use my laptop. When I try to turn it on their
is actually power there but nothing happens, it just sits at a blank
screen. Now usually for big problems I would use system restore or
whatever but I obviously can't do that if I can't get the computer
going

I know I'm not exactly giving a lot of information but there is not a
lot to give. Anyone got any ideas or suggestions?
