My created Master Slide in PowerPoint doesn't show in Normal view

I am running Office 2003 Professional edition. On older versions of
PowerPoint, I could go under VIEW, MASTER SLIDE and create a master slide
with clip art, text, colors, etc. and then that slide would appear in my
presentation on all slides. As I said to INSERT, NEW SLIDE, that master
slide appeared. Under 2003 PowerPoint, when I create the Master Slide, some
times some of the clip art pictures appear; but the text in the upper title
box does NOT appear. I have checked HELP both in the application and online
and can't find an answer. I also went into the Knowledge base and the
Training sections on Microsoft.com and still haven't found an answer. Could
you help? Thanks,

Are you talking about the box that says "Click to edit Master title
style"? The text in there is not supposed to show up on the slides. I
don't think (but I could be wrong) that it ever did in earlier versions.
That is a placeholder and users have to add their own text to
placeholders. You can adjust the style of that placeholder but not the
text. If you need text on every slide, you can add your own text box.

Yes, I tried your suggestion of a text box---I went under Insert, Text Box
and put text (such as a company name) in that text box. It would then come
thru on each slide. However, I thought, prior to 2003, that I had put that
text (such as company name) inside that box area that says "Click to edit
Master Title Style" and then it appeared on all future slides back in the
Normal View? Also, do you have to "save" or "preserve" the Master slide
after you create it?

No, but if you just create a text box on the master, you can pop anything you
like into it and it WILL appear on all slides based on that master.
Also, do you have to "save" or "preserve" the Master slide
after you create it?

In PPT 2002 and on, you can create multiple masters.
If a master isn't preserved, PPT will delete it on save or reopen IF no slides
in the presentation are based on it.

I'd say When In Doubt, Preserve.
