This morning My Computer started locking up and just
freezing with the flashlight waving. Also If I try and open
a file through a normal Open File dialog with a program it
is doing the same thing. If I reboot, about every 4th time I
can get it to work for a while and then it will go haywire
again.

Any ideas what may be causing this?

When you click Start and then click My Computer, or when you double-click My Computer on your Windows desktop, Windows may search (a flashlight may appear) for a long time (for example, 5 minutes) before files appear.

Disable the Windows Image Acquisition service.

Thanks Ramesh. It seems to have done the trick. Is this
something that should be disabled on startup or left on
automatic? It never created a problem before.

something that should be disabled on startup.

Frankly, not sure. The step seems to be a workaround and not a complete solution. I have set it to disabled and faced no problems.

Interesting article. I think I'll leave it on auto and see
if it acts up again.
