I tried booting using safe mode aftermy Xp hanged while displaying the banner
and got this errro in the events log:
The ff boot-start or system-start drivers failed to load:
Fips
IPsec
MRxSmb
NetBIOS
NetBT
Processor
RasAcd
Rdbss
Tcpip
VET-FILT
VET-REC
VETEFILE
VETMONT

I wonder if anyone can help me...I don't know what to do :-(

This is tricky to troubleshoot because the last file shown is not the file
that has hung. It's the last one that was loaded successfully.

The VET* files are parts of your antivirus program. You mentioned being
able to get to Event Viewer, so you're able to boot the system in some way?

You might try disabling the auto-protect. Then try safe mode again. You can
always start the antivirus program manually if you're trying to do some
"safe mode cleanup" related to virus or other malware.

This will only help if the system is hanging on another VET* (or other
antivirus) file that is not being shown on the screen. If it's a different
file, I have no idea which one or how to find out. Perhaps a logged boot
(can set that up in MSCONFIG) would record the actual problem file for you.
