Event Viewer Contents - Startup Hangs

I am having a startup problem in my Windows XP Desktop. It hangs
prior to the logon screen (I'm at a black screen, windows logo, and
progress bar scolls continually). I just posted this problem on
http://groups.google.com/group/micr...42fff2c8c90/49a222499cf44211#49a222499cf44211.

Then I saw your post and checked my event viewer. I have the
following error. Any idea what all this means?

The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
VANTExt
cdudf_xp
fips
intelppm
VET-FILT
VET-REC
VETEFILE
VETMONNT

Gery,

Thanks so much for your help. After a long afternoon of plugging away
at this, I did get my PC working again. I took your advice and did
run a full virus check while in safemode. It found a few things but I
think they were likely just adware stuff. I also purged all temporary
internet files and cookies. I can't say for sure what the actual fix
was, because I tried so many things. But I have a suspicion that the
fix was swapping out a bad device cable, possibly a USB extension
cable that was connecting to my webcam. Maybe, maybe not, but I'm
thrilled to have my computer back.
