event viewer errors

RAH

Hi,
I have recently had a spate of system hangs and I'm trying to solve the
problem. When I look in Event viewer I can see the same error under the
system list every time:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000
Date: 10/04/2004
Time: 12:43:41
User: N/A
Computer: HOME
Description:
The UDNT service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the device specified.

Also, probably unrelated, security error:Event Type: Failure Audit
Event Source: Security
Event Category: Account Logon
Event ID: 680
Date: 10/04/2004
Time: 14:18:03
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: HOME
Description:
Logon attempt by: MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_V1_0
Logon account: user1
Source Workstation: HOME
Error Code: 0xC000006A

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Yours faithfully.

Hi Kim,

Yes I do have a scanner - UMAX Astra 1220U (USB).

It is always listed as UMAX Astra 1220U #2 under Control Panel, Scanners and
Cameras. It's as if #1 is never completed removed.

Thanks in advance.

RAH.

Hello Rah,

Thank you for posting here.

The UDNT service is not a Microsoft service. It is belongs to the UMAX
scanner. The error message "7000" in the event log is related with UDNT
service, therefore you may try the following steps:

1. Run the following command:

services.msc

2. Find this service and double click on it.
3. Set its Startup type to "Disabled".
4. Restart the computer.

If it doesn't work, you may try the safe mode:
1. Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On
a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems,
you can press the F8 key when you see the Boot Menu.
2. When the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, select an option, and
then press ENTER.
3. When the Boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in
blue at the bottom, select the installation that you want to start, and
then press ENTER.

I hope the information I have provided you proves helpful!
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to let me know.
Thanks and regards,
Alex Zhang
