G

Greg

Windows XP Pro Media Center Edition.
I checked the Event Viewer and I am getting a Service Control Manager Error
in the System Log every time the computer is started. Properties for the
error are as follows:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000
Date: 2/10/2005
Time: 5:27:04 PM
User: N/A
Computer: HOME
Description:
The mrtRate service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

Any way to fix this error?

Quicken was preinstalled on my computer when I bought it. I have never used
the program. The file mrtrate.dll is not on the computer.

Greg,

DLL File: mrtrate or mrtrate.dll
DLL Name: Intuit Quicken DLL
http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/dlllibrary/mrtrate/

If you've already removed Quicken, then you can remove the orphaned driver
entry in the registry.

Open Regedit and navigate to:

[HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\<driver name>]
May be:
[HKL\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\mrtrate]

Backup and delete. Restart Windows

I had the same problem. I uninstalled Quicken and the error went away. It
was also preinstalled on my PC.

To err is human, but to really foul things up requires a computer.
