what causes this?
no other symtoms btw but i would like to get rid of it.
also the file the service tries to activate is there.
I have DSL .

That service provides support for 3rd party protocol plug-ins for Internet
Connection Sharing, it should be set to manual. To check it click start>run>
type in the box services.msc then press enter. Look for it in the list. If
yours is set to manual then you may have a malware or virus infection.

Its set to manual.
i have run a malware check and an antivirs check on
this module ALG.exe nothing shows up.
file version 5.1.2600.5512 (xpsp.080413-0852) from Microsoft.
it shows 44k in length shown by exlplorer. Date is 4/13/2008

does that sound right ?

I suggest you download and run Spybot S & D (freeware version). There
is a freeware version buried in this link:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
1.36 -freeware (if you upgrade you pay).

Run Malwarebytes' in safe mode and turn off your current anti-virus
before you do to avoid a conflict. Disregard the invitation on the web
site regarding the Registry Optimiser -a Registry Optimiser is not a
helpful utility.

an update - fpr some reason it works fine now.
that process starts up annd the message is gone.
odd
btw search and destroy didnt find anything with it
