Mup.sys stop at boot

Just put a new mother board and intel duo combo in place and a safe boot
fails at Mup.sys. If I try to reinstall from an XP upgrade disc I get an
alert that I can't find processor instruction CPUID & CMPXCHG8B. Bios shows
the processor so I'm confused at that on. Thoughts?

For whatever reason, the installer cannot find some necessary CPU
instructions.

First off...is your XP cd sp2?
If not , you may have to create a new XP install cd with sp2 slipstreamed.

If you are using XPsp2 and it's not working then something within the
installation itself is corrupted.

though it could be due to a dirty or scratched CD...

it's possibly due to a RAM error or timing issue.

Try underclocking the RAM or running a RAM diagnostic test

Still no luck. Replaced the ram and now may have to re-install the old boad
and attempt to construct a slipstreamed xp2 cd but I still don't think that
will help to find the ID. ANyone with thoughts.
