Multiple Windows installs: can't get rid of

I recently re-installed Windows XP Home on my computer because the system
restore wasn't working properly. When I first tried it, the installation
didn't take. I then tried to install to my other hard drive, which didn't
work correctly. I then went back and re-installed on the first hard drive
successfully.

I then went into my second hard drive and deleted the windows folders. I
still have 3 selectable instances of Windows XP Home during boot time. The
first one is the working one, the second and third are corrupt (as expected).
I removed these entries using the Check All Boot Paths button under Boot.ini
in MSCONFIG. Now my computer will only start up in Selective Startup Mode.
I have yet to try manually editing the boot.ini with notepad, so that may
eliminate this problem.

My question is in regard to disk space. There was about 50GB of space left
on each of my hard drives before I tried to re-install the first time. Now I
have only about 20GB remaining on the drive with the working Windows
installation (1 failed prior on this drive) and about 34GB remaining on the
other hard drive, after manually deleting Windows files once that install had
failed (once I finally got the successful install on other hard drive).

Where did my free space go and how can I recover it? There is only one
Windows folder, which is on the drive with the working install.

Open msconfig again and ...

Under the General tab Select: Normal Startup - load all device drivers and
services | Click Apply and Close
