Multiple RIS servers

I am setting up a RIS enviroment for a customer of mine
and would like to roll out workstations over multiple
locations. What I want to do is setup Win2k serv on a
laptop and have this as one of the RIS servers. It will be
dhcp enabled since each location gets its own dhcp range.
I know I need to authorize the RIS server everytime it
changes IP range. Now I have a problem it should work
according to all the documentation I find about the RIS
server as long as the images are the same on both RIS
servers the clients on a different location should first
get their images from the laptop instead of from the WAN
located RIS server. But to my amazement the clients only
get a response from the WAN server and not the Locally
placed RIS server. WHY? What is the problem what am I
overlooking can someone help me please?

Well I found out that even if you have multiple RIS
servers it does not matter as soon as you set up a server
for RIS and it is also a DHCP server you are done for.
There will be no response from the other servers since
your clients prefer to have the DHCP data and RIS data on
the same server this is also so even when you try it over
a WAN.
So what I did was disabled the RIS server that was also
the DHCP server but this did not help the other RIS server
still does not respond to client requests. The only thing
I might find out is the problem is that the new RIS server
is installed with servicepack 4 and not like the other
servers with servicepack 3. For the rest the DHCP on the
new server says it is authorized to recieve client
requests but it just does nothing.
Well that is the update for now!
