mspaint fails to load regularly, faults at mfc42u.dll.
Will open via "Run As" with no changes, e.g., no admin or
other logon. ??

Add remove windows components; accessories, Paint.
Might help if you remove & reinstall it.

Tried that first. No lucko. Also tried copying versions
from another machine (XP Home) of both mspaint and
mfc42u.dll. Again, no lucko. Client says he had mspaint
open and his cat (really) stepped on his surge protector
and shut the system down! Go figure. Any suggestions
welcome. Vic

Hi,

This fix usually works:

Close any/all instances of MSPaint. Then start/run regedit, navigate to this
key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Applets\Paint

Hightlight (click on it) that key and delete it. Close the registry editor
and reopen Paint.
