mspaint failure; regedit fix didn't work

I am running WinXP Professional. I do not have an XP disk, rather, I have a recovery disk
which came with my Compaq Evo N180 laptop.

I see that a common solution to mspaint failing in winXP is to delete a registry key.
I have tried that, and it did not work.
However, the error report has changed. It used to read:

Error signature
AppName: mspaint.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600.1106
ModName: mfc42u.dll
ModVer: 6.0.8665.0 Offset: 00017103

*now* it reads:

Error signature
AppName: mspaint.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600.1106
ModName: imm32.dll ModVer: 5.1.2600.1106 Offset: 00011a26

Notice that the ModName .dll has changed. Now instead of not working at all, the mspaint
window comes up with window heading and the usual "file, edit, view, etc." at the top,
and then it proceeds to fail.

However, it seems that this has work for others in the past? I even tried removing mspaint through
control panel, rebooting, deleting the registry key, rebooting, then reinstalling mspaint through
control panel, rebooting, then trying to execute mspaint.exe. It did not work.

Thank you for any help you may be able to give.

HERE IS THE FIX .... Go to start/controlpanel/Users Create a new user account being sure to give it admin access ..Then change then name of your old user account . This will fix the prob but be aware that some programs you used to use will need to be setup all over again ... The postitive side is that your PC will run alot better ... You have a corrupt user account and it will only get worse ...Email me with questions ... BTW that regedit fix dont work unless useing winME or lower ... And i couldnt test it as i dont use them ..

MIKE Email me and let me know how you did
