System restore won't run

Every time I try to access system restore, it crashes and
sends an error report to Microsoft. I'm using WinXP
home. I get this in the error report:
AppName: rundll32.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600.0 ModName:
srrstr.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.1142 Offset: 00009765

or this:

AppName: rstrui.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600.1106 ModName:
srrstr.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.1142 Offset: 000095fa

depending on how I try to access it. How do I fix it?
