when i get the system configeration utility running (windows xp), i go
to start up and untick the unwanted progs. I press appply and reboot
as requested.

i can nuse the new the changes and every reboot i am greeted with this
message -

"the system configeration utility is currently in diagnostic or
selective mode, causing this message to be displayed and the utility
to run every time windows starts.

choose the normal startup mode on the general tab to start windows
normally and undo the changes you have made using the system
configeraration utilty"

i then run msconfig, follow the message instructions, then reboot with
the original unwanted programs running !!
please help.im going mad ( the system is windows xp home, with one
user/admin and there have been no problems loading programs ..cheers

Hit CANCEL instead when MSconfig comes up

Any advise given is my attempt to show appreciation for all
the excellent help I've received here but I'm no MVP so it
may only apply NUGS (Normally, Usually, Generally, Sometimes :)

After you make changes in the startup of msconfig and reboot, that
dialogue box should have a box with text beside it "do not display
this message again or run the configuration utility" If you check that
box and click OK then your startup changes will be saved.

Next time you make changes and see this message windows just check the
box to not have it warn you again.

Nice sentiment, but the word is "advice". "Advise" is a verb: the
act of giving advice.

I would have e-mailed you privately, but ...
