Iam running Windows XP with sp2 and keep it up to date. Every 15 minutes I
get an Ms03-026 error message warning - my security software PcCillin 2006
blocks the access - when I check the fixes for MS03-026 they state they are
included with sp2 and also I tried to download the fix and it states I have a
newer file then the one downloaded and will not allow me to do the update -
therefore I assume I already have the fixes for this problem. How come I
keep getting the MS03-026 error messages?

What, exactly, does the error message say? Based on your vague
description, it sounds like your security software is merely warning you
that someone is attempting to attack your computer.

Yes it is a network virus warning message and yes my security software
PcCillin 2006 blocks it - however it is my understanding that the patches
identified with MS03-026 would eliminate the warning message and windows
would automatically block the attack. What Ms03-026 says is that a peice of
RPC code has come through my network or onto my pc and thus the warning
message. When I run virus scan it says my pc is clean, also when I run a
vulnerability check is says my pc is clean. The Ms03-026 message comes up
every 15 minutes.

While installing the MS03-026 patch (or a subsequent Service Pack)
would certainly protect your computer from being infected and damaged by
the RPC exploit, doing so would have absolutely no affect upon a 3rd
party application's notifying you of such attempts. If you don't want
your security application telling you when exploit attempts occur,
simply configure that application to suppress the warnings.

What Ms03-026 says is that a peice of
RPC code has come through my network or onto my pc and thus the warning
message.

This doesn't really make any sense. "MS03-026" was Microsoft's
designation of the patch needed, but there is no "MS03-026 Warning"
native to Windows. What is the *EXACT* wording of this error message,
and what is the *Exact* text displayed in the title bar of the
warning/alert dialog box?

When I run virus scan it says my pc is clean, also when I run a
vulnerability check is says my pc is clean. The Ms03-026 message comes up
every 15 minutes.

This problem is on a friends PC.
Yes I have windows firewall enabled and the PcCillin firewall enabled. The
message I get is from PcCillin and it is only a warning message concerning
the vulernability of a network virus to do with MS03-026. I have blocked
port 135. Yes PcCillin is doing what it is supposed to do by warning me and
blocking the atempt, my concern is that I keep getting the message every 15
minutes (my PC running the same software does not display this message) and
should not windows and PcCillin identify this (since the patches are in
windows) and not report the warning message. I also realize that I may not
have a problem and the software PcCillin is just doing what it is supposed to
do. But if this is the case it makes me wonder do others get a warning
message for each incident of an intruder going after port 135 to do with
MS03-026 RPC Exploit?
