Hi there!
I'd like to record a message and send it as email-attachment.
But I just can't locate this MS module on my XP Pro system!
I already checked under "Accessories/Entertainment", but no
luck...only "Volume Control" is listed there (among others).
So any valid tip would be highly appreciated; thanks!
Best regards,
Philippe Borel

Rt-clk on Start, go to All Users, do a search there for 'sound recorder'
If it's not there, create a shortcut from -
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sndrec32.exe

Remember, in its standard form, the recording time is limited to something
like 55 secs.

Thanks very much "johnf" for your very quick reply!
So since I couldn't find it via "search", I then typed the
path as given by you -- but it was unfortunately...invalid.
But then I found the way by replacing "C:\WINDOWS\..."
with "%SystemRoot%\..." and...it worked!! Strange, no??
Hmm, so could you please perhaps explain to me now,
WHY I was like "this" on my system (XP Pro)??
Indeed, since I'm doing also some "PC-Support", I'd
really appreciate to get to know the reason for it...

Perhaps something has been corrupted, possibly one of the MVPs can answer
that, I've seen that path-type on other 'enhanced' shortcuts as well.

Anyway, here are the shortcut Properties settings -

1. Target: %SystemRoot%\System32\sndrec32.exe
2. Start in: C:\WINDOWS\System32
3. Comment: Records sounds if a microphone and sound card are installed.
4. "Change Icon" (to Speaker) is also found in:
%SystemRoot%\System32\sndrec32.exe

Okay, thanks a lot for this renewed response of yours, "johnf"!!

Depends on whether the Folder "WINDOWS already existed at install time -
setup then picks another which becomes %SystemRoot%. so it will be different
on a clean install to an upgrade.
