Can I use "Sound Recorder" to capture telephone line audio?

I have some messages on my answering machine that I'd like to record on my
PC. I have a modem on the PC.

My PC is on a different phone number than my answering machine so calling it
is no problem. (These are messages left on an aswering machine so there are
no FCC problems either)

Can I use "sound recorder" program found under "Accessories" /
"Entertainment" to do this over the wire? How?

If not, any other ideas?

Thanks

The simple approach might be to use the PC's mic to record from the
machine - forgetting about phone lines and dialing.

SoundRecorder is limited to :60, unless the file is edited. But there are
many other more capable sound utils available on the Net. Search
http://google.com. Or it's possible that one is already installed on
your PC. Creative's SoundBlaster cards may be bundled with RECORDER,
which has no length limitation, and can record "what you hear", no matter
what it's source.

If your modem is interconnected to the sound system.
