MPEG video editing question

I have captured some MPEG video from a TV PCI card and it plays back OK
through Windows Media Player. However, when I try to import the file into
Windows Movie Maker to edit it I get the following message:

"The file xx.mpg cannot be imported because the codec required to play the
file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to
download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and
then try to import the file again."

Does this means the Media Player codecs are separate to the MovieMaker
codecs, and if so, where can I get them from?

Thanks
