I am running windows XP, and get the following error when importing any AVI file. This is the first time I have used Movie Maker, and I did check "Download Codecs Automatically" in "Options".

The file [missed this first time, thanks V_R] HDTV.XviD-ASAP.[VTV].avi cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.

That fixed it- Thanks... Now, MM does not find an R-R/W drive. I've tried all of the suggestions, including Reg. modification to no avail. There is no "Recording" tab in my drive Properties. I'm ready to give up.

Thanks again for the help... Jerry
