Moving Crash Dump Location

Can I move the crash dump location to a partition other than the system
partition? I see the option to change but am not sure it will still work. I
have moved my page file to anotehr partition to save space and was concerned
about getting a crash dump without creating a smaller page file on my C drive
to accommodate the crash dump.

Thank you.

My understanding of this is/was that the Dump file needed to be on the
boot volume (the boot volume is where Windows is installed). By default
it's at %SystemRoot%.

But if you Right Click My Computer>Properties>Advanced>Startup and
Recovery you can change the location. You have to reboot the pc for the
changes to take effect. Maybe the file can be moved only to a different
location on the boot volume or maybe it can be moved to another volume
altogether.

If you want you can cause a crash to see if the dump file does get
written to the new location:

Windows feature (?) allows a Memory.dmp file to be generated with the
keyboard

Try moving it to another volume and try it, see what happens. Let us
know the outcome, I'm kind of curious and too lazy to try it! Also, I
wonder if the dump file is moved off the boot volume will it be written
if the crash happens at boot time as opposed to when Windows is up and
running.
