mouse has gone berzerk

Hi, for the last couple of weeks my mouse will suddenly
take on a kinetic life of its own. opens programs, closes
programs. jumps sporatically around the screen. I use
control alt delete to get to the task list; tab to the
task manager and then I have control of my mouse again
(usually). I have Symantec Corporate Edition on this
machine. I got Norton Internet Security to scan for
viruses and parasytes but nothing came up. I cleaned the
mouse. I can hear the harddrive grinding just before it
goes insane on me. When I'm working I save frequently now
because I don't know when it will flip out. Happens many
times a night. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong
with my machine?

- Try a different mouse
- Try a different mouse port (USB instead of PS/2)
- Break all network and Internet connections
when it happens, to ensure that you don't have
a hackar playing games with your machine.

Also, try moving that mouse to another PC and see if it
behaves the same on a different machine.
