moniter or computer fault ??

when i switch on my moniter followed by my computer the screen does not light
up but instead goes to stanby, the green light turning to amber, the only
thing I can then do is switch the computer off using the power off/on button
I sometimes have to do this 3 times before the screen lights up. This has
only recently started to happen, pressing the keyboard or mouse makes no
difference, any ideas/suggestions ?

I did not know as it is over 2yrs since I connected it, all thwe wiring is
behind the desk, when I moved the monitor to have a look the power to it went
off, so it may just have been a loose plug, do you think? thanks for your
help I will see how it is the next time I switch on. It has it's own seperate
power supply.

I've seen faults like this happen when there is a graphic card problem. The
graphic signal isnt sent to the monitor to start the monitor. You shoulfd
try and take the monitor to another computer to try and try another monitor
in your computer. Check the monitor cables as a bad conection will cause the
same problem.

Please repost if you find the fault

it could have been the plug, may also be something to do with your video
card, i would see how it goes, if you still have trouble then try updating
the video card drivers from the manufac website, all the best pete ;-)

Have you checked "Device Manager"?
Right click "My Computer"
Select "Properties"/DeviceManager
Look for your graphics, if there is a prob
it will be marked with an exclaimation mark!

This is probably normal for a monitor that has been powered
on before the computer is booted. The monitor will go into
standby mode until it receives a signal from the graphics card.
There is no need to try to force the monitor to be on unless
its setting for standby mode has been disabled.
