Modem Trouble - Device Cannot Start(Code 10)

Sean

Hi,

I have a Rockwell 56k Plug and Play modem that refuses to work. It was
working fine for a while, but now I get a Device Cannot Start (Code 10) in
Device Manager. I've tried plugging it into different PCI slots, changing
the drivers, changing the resources, but nothing seems to work. Does anyone
have any suggestions? I'm at the point where I'm thinking of formatting my
hard drive and installing it again. Any help please?

Thanks

Hi Sean,

Have you tried completely removing the modem physcially, shutdown then
placing it back? If so have you tried removing the device from Enum?

Code 10

This device is either not present, not working properly, or does not have
all the drivers installed. (Code 10). Try upgrading the device drivers for
this device.

To resolve this error code, make sure the device is connected to the
computer correctly. For example, make sure all cables are plugged in fully
and that all adapter cards are properly seated. Follow the suggested
solution button and update the device driver. It may be possible to remove
the device and redetect it using the Add New Hardware wizard.

Are you sure that the modem is firmly seated in its slot? It has to be
down as far as it can go - you shouldn't be able to wiggle either end
downward. Sometimes the screw holding the bracket will pull the card
out again; priority has to be given to the card, not the bracket.
