This device cannot start. (Code 10)

I have an ACOM DATA 60GB External USB/Firewire hard drive connected to my
Toshiba Laptop. It has been working with no issues for years, all of sudden I
am now unable to view my drive at all and when I look in Device Manager, I
have a "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" error.

Any one that point me in the right direction on this would be greatly
appreciated.

Does it work with another comptuer? Do you hear any unusual sounds while
the drive is running? Do you have another external enclosure you can move
the drive to or can you move the drive to an internal connection in another
computer?

Code 10
If the device has a "FailReasonString" value in its hardware key, that
string is displayed as the error message. The driver or enumerator
places this registry string value there. If there is no
"FailReasonString" in the hardware key, the following generic error
message is displayed:

This device is either not present, not working properly, or does not
have all the drivers installed. (Code 10)

Try upgrading the device drivers for this device.

Solution button: Update Driver

To resolve this error code, make sure the device is connected to the
computer correctly. For example, make sure all cables are plugged in
fully and that all adapter cards are properly seated. Follow the
suggested solution button and update the device driver. It may be
possible to remove the device and redetect it using the Add New Hardware
wizard. GIMoe wrote:

I have a Zen Xtra mp3 player that I use for the file storage. Whilst using it
today it stopped working, I have re-installed all drivers and software that
came with it. In the device manager it is being recognised as a MTP device,
and when queried the driver states a code 10.I also reinstalled all the
drivers associated with the USB hubs.

I have been using the device for years...I haven't been able to try it on
another computer as yet. It's just weird that it was working then it wasn't.
Is this the end of its life?

Any help would be great.
