i have a modem that is a product of Conexant corp. when i try to use it wit windows xp pro it loads the driver files itself and takes place in the device list as "Generic SoftK56" i was using it safely without installing new drivers,but xp started to make problem with it after a period of time,when i open the machine it says "New device found" although i never touched the modem as its still in the same place,then it showes "driver is loading for your software" window at that time computer shuts down.i tried many advices,for example installing newer drivers but still the same,it shuts when i try to load.i opened it in safe mode and restarted but nothing changed "a new device found..." now i am using winme and the modems works without any problem.whats the problem with my modem and xp?by the time,when i format my disk and try to setup xp again,on the step of "locating devices" suddenly a blue screen appears and shuts down never waiting..my friend has a different kind version of the same modem and his xp did the same.can a worm do this?i had the common worm problem with xp:"rpc terminated the system will be shutdown.." and another shutdown message:"Isas.exe caused a problem system will be shut down" thanks for help
