cant add Modem

Hi,

i have a somewhat obscure problem with my windows xp installation on my
IBM Thinkpad. I want to add Modem drivers to communicate with my
Bluetooth capable mobile phone and do internet stuff with GPRS.

The point is, xp tells me that i cant install a modem driver at this
point, because there is a device being installed at the moment, which is
just not true. I cant tell you the exact english error message because
my installation is german but it must be something like:

"You cant install 2 devices at the same time. Another device is being
installed. After completion start this assistent again".

I have one modem installed which is a thinkpad supplied 56k modem called
Agere Systems AC97 Modem. I am trying to do the stuff via
Settings/telephone and modem options

I tried several things without success like reboot and msconfig (where i
disabled all user services and also several different INI startups). But
its allways the same.

Now the magic question, how can i find out what is wrong and how can i
install my modem driver? Its a quite fresh installation and i really
dont want to re-install XP at this point without knowing if its better
afterwards.

Thanks for info.

Marc

Is the ThinkPad Bluetooth compatible?

If it is, then as the phone comes in range it should identify it and then
ask for drivers. That is unless the user manual dictates that software +
drivers should be first installed and then the phone come s colse to the PC.

ANyway, read the manual for both Phone and ThinkPad and make sure both are
capable of communicating, before attempting to get them to talk.

cdcm
have you resolved conflict at ports.try getting a generic drive for the
modem.and go to a port pci3.the device being installed is the conflict .i
just repaired that same problem

Hi,

sorry the thinkpad never asked for drivers and i just want to solve the
primary problem of not being able to add a modem driver. SonyEricsson
describes the way of doing that stuff, their even have an own
installation program for BT modem drivers but also this installation
program fails because it cant add a modem because of windows xp behavior.
