Modem on COM3 in Windows XP

Guest

I am having Fujitsu Siemens Laptop nad WIN XP Home.
I am having an internal modem (Smartlink 56K Internal Modem)
Two Days before I was just browsing the internet and i downloaded the High
Mat CD update in the windows Update. Everthing was just fine and when i tried
to connect to the internet in the afternoon(Dial Up modem) it showed an error
message.
I tried again and again but of no avail. So i thought of
reinstalling the modem. I went to control panel and in the Phone and modem
options i removed the modem.
When i tried to install the modem , the add new hardware wizard was
saying that no new hardware was found.

Plzzzzzzz help me or else i will be in trouble.

Maybe the internal modem has given up the ghost. Have a look
at the Event Recorder. It might also help to cold-boot the machine.

Turn the computer off for 10-15 seconds. Then turn it on.

Have a look in device manager and see if it is there. Go to start, run and
type devmgmt.msc . Look for modems. If it is there, delete it and reboot.
If it is working, plug and play should find it and install the drivers.

A cold boot is where you shut down the computer totally and then switch it
on again to re boot it. a warm reboot is where you click on restart and the
system reboots without switching off.

If it was working, it sounds like it died. If this is a new install or
the after effects of an operating system installation. You need to
install it as per the instruction manual.
