Modem Not Recognized after OS reinstall

After reinstalling the Windows 2000 OS, the modem is
installed with all of the proper drivers (have disk)but
plug and play does not recognize the modem and it isn't
seen when running diagnostics. Am I missing something
simple?

The modem worked fine right up to the reinstall of the OS.

Could be that the modem instructions say to install the drivers, THEN
install the modem. A lot of the "winmodem" types are real sticklers
about the drivers being on the hard drive BEFORE the system sees the
hardware. So if all else fails reread the manual for the modem installation.
