sorry first post not complete
-- Dial up moden (USR5660A) not recognized in bios (pci device splash
screen) or win xp home (hdw device manager) no listing for modems at all.
Had a conflict with hp printer software after downloading IE7. hp said to
reinstall the printer software. Hp’s SW likes to be installed right after OS
and this time it would not comlete the installation and hung. I re-formated
and re-installed the OS and SW then the dial up modem, on rebooting the modem
was initially recognized but computer said drivers I tried to install were
not for this device??? (same disk I used before) downloaded new drivers from
internet same thing (drivers not for device). At this point moden not
recognized at all and the new HW wizard did not start. I tried 4 of 5 pci
slots and same thing not recognized. Reinstalled os again “sameâ€. Thought I
fried modem purchased new (USR5670) 4 of 5 pci slots “sameâ€. Tried add new
hardware to install modem manually only listed com port com 1 then blue
screen shut down caught in loop, re-format re-install again modem still not
recognized. Took USR5660A put it into another computer worked fine installed
successfully (modem not bad). Contacted MB Mfg. They said IRQ conflict.
However NO conflicts in device mgr. Sent MB in to test, returned, tested ok
no defects. Reinstalled OS attempted to install modem before MB, video, and
sound drivers. To avoid irq conflicts. Same thing not recognized. I have
another pc with the same MB and modem and there is a listing on the start up
splash screen “ pci slot 4 I/O deviceâ€. The pc with the issue has no such
listing. The modem worked fine before. Looked through knowledge base came up
with article id 283412. but does it apply to me and where do you see if a
program is holding a com port open? Is the pci buss fried?? How do I
determine if an irq conflict exists if device manager is clear. Windows
reassigns IRQ’s but doesent it need to be recognized by mb??? Help
frustrated!!!!!
