I have found that having a USB D-Link DSC-100 intalled makes MM2 crash.
I have found that having Cyberlink PowerDVD 5 installed makes MM2 crash.
I have found that it is not possible, nearly impossible to uninstall MM2 and
the other software that cause problems to start fresh, so an OS re-install
may be the only way.
I have found that all of the problems do not go away if you switch from USB2
to firewire. MM2 is still problematic with firewire.
It is already known that the DivX codecs cause MM2 to crash. This needs to
be fixed as other programs now install these codecs for playback.
What I do now know is that this is like the old days of the 1980s where
different ASPI and SCSI drivers caused havoc to most servers, I thought we
had come forward, but alas we have not.
It appears that MM2 is only part of the problem, many devices do not use the
Microsoft standard USB and firewire drivers, but install their own (see
D-Link DSC-100...) and these are not compatible with other equipment.
I have a Sony DCR-TRV80E and the software and drivers that come with it are
also non-standard and with a little investigation it is possible to see that
they are pretty pathetic. I would not recommend this device to others. Find
a device that uses the MS USB2 drivers or the standard firewire drivers.
