MM2 will not overwrite MM

Have XP Home w/SP 2.
Downloaded MM2, it seems to install, but MM runs not MM2.
MM will not list in Add/Remove Programs, so I can't unintall MM and install
MM2. Found a thread online concerning this problem, fooled with the
Registered Packages folder(60BFF...blah blah...blah), that didn't work, any
suggestions?
(why it didn't install with the SP2 update is beyond me, origninal install
was XP HE SP1a)
