Does not recognize my DVD USB 2.0 camera

I have a Canon DC 40 DVD camera, it is in video play mode (can grab
video from it using Roxio MY DVD LE that came with camera). I cannot
seem to recognize the camera using MM2. (I do not have Roxio open at
the same time when I try MM2). I have had success with my firewire cam
on Xp with MM@, this is teh first time I am trying my USB 2.0 cam. How
do USB 2.0 cams show up in device mgr? any general info on how to use
Windows XP with USB 2.0 cams could be helpful.

Windows Movie Maker does not really like analog capture (which is what
you're going to get with USB, whether 1.1 or 2.0). Is there no firewire
option on this camcorder?

If no, did the Canon camcorder not come with video editing software?
