missing volume icon on taskbar

T

T

am using XP sp2

The Volume Control icon is not displayed on my taskbar.
I have clicked the check mark and Apply and then OK in the Cotrol panel
settings in Sounds and Audio Devices and then re-booted and it doesn't show
on Taskbar.
I log on as a different user and it shows.
I tried thes uggested MS resolution: re-installing a new sndvol32.exe file,
and it doesnt make any difference.

Suggestions please and thank-you.

Are you sure its not just hidden. Look at properties of the taskbar and look
at customise inactive icons.

T: If Neil's suggestion does not work and if you are certain that the volume
control displays properly under other profiles, you might try re-creating
your profile. Open windows explorer and go to documents and settings.
Locate the folder that corresponds to your profiles nad rename that folder
<yourname>.old

Now log off your profile and log back in. The logon will take longer than
usual as windows will create a new profile for you. Once logged in, verify
that the volume control is displayed in the system tray, then open windows
explorer again, and migrate your favorites, desktop, and My documents files
to the corresponding directories under your new profile.

Hope this helps,
