Missing Thumbnails

The My Pictures file doesn't show thumbnail previews of my photos and
therefore I cannot generate a slideshow of these pictures. I have looked at
previous discussions between your advisors and XP owners and have followed
the instructions you gave them (file views, folder options, typing REGSVR32
SHIMGVW.DLL, altering the registry through the kellys-korner website) and
nothing works. I cannot even generate these thumbnails through my DELL
picture editor despite the fact that in the options menu of the DELL picture
editor it gives the option to do so. The files are JPEG files. Any help would
be greatly appreiciated.

When you open My Pictures and go to...View /
Thumbnails...what do you see?

Maybe the following article will offer some ideas:

I have a load of icons with the title of the picture underneath. The icon
graphic itself is of a sunset and there is a ship on the sea. I forgot to
mention that videos that I have taken do show up as thumbnails - I play them
using Real Player. The first scene of the video is what is displayed as a
thumbnail. It is only the photos that I have that do not show up and I think
this is the reason that I cannot use the 'view as slide show' option. My
files are not compressed and certainly do take up a lot of room on my hard
drive so I don't think that is the issue.

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to have worked either. Do you know of
anything else - really would prefer this to be fixed - I have recently
installed the Windows XP Service Pack 2 onto the system and my laptop did
experience probs with ad/spyware last month - the slide show option is
something that I use often so any additional suggestions would be good. Thanks

Did you try the following:

There is a registry patch at the link below
that *might* solve your problem.

Read the following articles about editing
your registry before proceeding:

Information About Editing the Registry

(322756) How to back up, edit, and restore
the registry in Windows XP and Windows
Server 2003

Scroll down to #17 right column:

Looks like I'm stumped on the thumbnail
issue but for the slideshow...try the following...

Open My Pictures...open one image in
Windows Picture and Fax Viewer...

Press F11...

That should start the slideshow.
