Thumbnails in my pictures will not open

I uploaded photos from my camera (which has since been wiped) to Picasa. They
automatically went to My Pictures. I have all the thumbnails but only half
the photo images will open. I have tried opening with all programs but no
success. They are all jpeg files an of the same size. Windows picture viewer
says "no image available".
Please help.
